Fueling Up & Tuning the System

We’ve just pushed a 4 page update to DEAD SIMPLE, adding new mechanics, refining looting, and giving you more tools (and trouble) to shape your survivors.

Gasoline Mechanics Are In

Fuel is now a tracked, lootable, and burnable resource. Gasoline is rare—it spoils over time, and most vehicles and generators in the world were abandoned months ago. If you want to keep your engine running, you’ll need to scavenge, store, and protect your fuel supply.

Looting System Rework

Looting now includes a “loot tag” step. You roll Wits + Perception + a location modifier, and check the result against the Universal Loot Table. We’ve also added a Gas Loot Table, making it possible to specifically search for fuel—just don’t expect it to be easy.

New Positive Traits

  • Pilot's License (You can fly aircraft without penalty)

  • Seaworthy (You can operate a sea faring vessel without penalty)

New Negative Traits

  • Fear of Heights (You have penalties for being in an aircraft or at a significant height)

  • Hydrophobia (You have penalties for being around large bodies of water)

These add new layers to roleplay and party balance. We want positive traits to feel enabling, and negative ones to be fun (but flavorful) setbacks—not punishments.

Adjusted Hit Location Table

We’ve refined the random hit location system to make it both more brutal and more believable. Hits now have a slightly higher chance of landing on limbs or the torso, reducing unrealistic headshot frequency and giving players more tactical reasons to armor up or protect weak spots.

That’s it for this one—but more updates are on the way, including expanded crafting, faction rules, vehicle stats, and something sinister stirring in the woods. Keep surviving, keep looting, and keep your tank full.
